Additionally, you can off-load the maintenance of the LDAP directory to another person or department. For example, the human resources department might be responsible for creating new employees in the LDAP directory when they join the company, and then department heads might add those new users into a special group to allow them access to applications used within those departments. All of this can be completely transparent to your applications, since the user authentication and authorization are deferred to the LDAP server.
